Insomnia April 11, 2008
Been up since about 1:30. That’s a.m. Only went to bed around 10:00. I am not happy. For some reason Layla found it necessary to alert me to some random something or other bright and early this morning. Dumb dog. Usually I go right back to sleep after one of the girls barks at something. But sometimes……Bing! Wide awake. So thrilled. So, I unloaded the dishwasher. It’s an exciting life I lead! Normally on an insomniac night I’d do the laundry. I’d do that now, but my piece of crap dryer isn’t working. D’oh! So here I sit filling you all in on my exciting life! A thrill a minute, no?
Interesting people April 4, 2008
I met the most interesting couple today. There’s the Yahoo group called Freecycle.com that recycles things of all kinds to keep them out of the landfills. I check in there occasionally, because you never know. I also post occasionally. So I replied to a posting listing bathtubs. And I thought “Hmmmm, that could make an interesting planter for the backyard” and I requested it. And received it. So I went over there to pick it up, and the people were so wonderful. They are remodeling their house and are giving away a bunch of fixtures and the like. The front yard is landscaped all in desert flowers and shrubs, and it is just beautiful. They are an “earth friendly” household, and I actually learned quite a bit today. For example, when you add solar panels to your roof, APS and the taxman actually pay for about half! Plus, if you install a solar hot water heater, it pays for itself in about 3 years! I got to wander around in the back yard and learn more about composting than I knew existed. Which is really cool, because I have Dad’s old composter in the back yard. And now I want to start a worm bed. You thow in your kitchen scraps and let the worms eat it and then it’s great for the garden. I must learn more. Anyway, I hope to stay in contact with them, I’d really like to learn more…I love this whole earth friendly world!
