TK’s rantings

Me and mine, in my own words, such as they are

Graduation Day May 30, 2008

My (older) baby graduated from eighth grade last night. For a time, I wasn’t sure that it would actually happen. But it did, and I’m so proud of the dude! He looked ever so handsome in his suit and tie (and with the long, straggly hair).

The ceremony itself was typical; speeches that don’t really mean anything, awards given to the nerds “privileged” few, etcetera, etcetera.  We hooted and hollered for the dude when they called his name and he got his diploma. Embarrassed him, I’m sure. At least I hope so!

Now, on to High School. Yikes!

Happy Memorial Day May 26, 2008

Filed under: Memorial Day — grrrarrrg @ 9:59 am

Well, maybe not “happy”. We’re all happy to have an extra day off. I know I am. We need, however, to remember why we have this three day weekend. Today we honor those men and women that gave the ultimate sacrifice for and in service to this country. We do live in the best country in the world. It is flawed, in some areas terribly flawed. And we complain about those flaws. But unlike many other countries, we are able to complain about those flaws (and I do, frequently), and we are able to do so due to the sacrifices made by our military personnel (one of which I used to be, and I am extremely proud of and thankful to my brothers and sisters in service), so a big “thank you” to the men and women of the uniformed and armed services. Thank you for your service, thank you for your sacrifices, which are many. Thank you. My flag is flying, and I am proud to have it do so. Thank you for continuing to ensure I have that right. May God bless you all.

More Jeep saga May 16, 2008

Filed under: Jeep, car repair — grrrarrrg @ 2:41 pm

One last story in the saga of the Jeep. Between the windows, the batteries and everything in between, I’ve been ready to kick the damn thing. But I’ve been nice to it. And yet……

So I’m taking my kids to my dad’s house in the morning, and something just isn’t right. The alignment was off, and when I get to Dad’s house (abouth 3 minutes from my house) I take a look. Lo and behold-a flat tire. I am not happy. But I call AAA, and they come (rather quickly, I might add) and change my tire, and off to work I go. Fortunately my spare is a full size tire, so I take care of the flat after work.

Ok, so that doesn’t seem like much of a story, I know. But that’s not the end.

The very next day, as I’m driving to my dad’s house (same ol’ routine), I hear “thunk”, and then thwap thwap thwap thwap thwap thwap……..

The upper half of the plastic “hub” over the tire FELL OFF OF MY CAR.
FELL OFF OF MY CAR.
Fell off. While I was driving. Bottom half hitting the tire. So not happy.

I am so done with this Jeep. I am so done with Jeep in general. I’m done with Daimler-Chrysler. So very done.

Now, I have a Honda Civic.
